LOVE LETTERS IN LIGHT
Love Letters in Light contributors included a core group of five writers (Victoria Chang, féi hernandez, Jerry Quickley, Yesika Salgado, and Imani Tolliver) and a public open call that received over 1,100 submissions from which 90 finalists were selected.
In May of 2021 scrolling LED signs were installed on the exterior of ten library buildings throughout LA County, and programmed with brief messages of love of fifteen words or less. At each of the ten locations, a new message was displayed for each day in May, alternating between English and Spanish, for a total of 310 messages in the project.
Care appears on my doorstep: avocados, dogeared books, smoked chicken. A love note, unsigned.
